IMG_4385My friends and I are all in the same spot. We are entering our mid-to-late twenties and trying to make sense of everything we *think* we know about life. I’m learning that I don’t have to have everything planned out just yet. There’s some time and we are still pretty young (for now).

I stole the title of this post from the book “Modern Romance” by Aziz Ansari. I found myself reading it for most of my 5.5 hour plane ride home from LAX to Maui.  I am not a book critic but I can tell you that the research that went into this was good. I believed what I read because there were stories and facts to back it up. Good job, Aziz. I picked it up because of names I recognized (Sherry Turkle, Clay Shirky, The New School and NYU) but continued reading because of how of how much I could relate to what was being said in this book.

Romance aside, we struggle with modern technology and how it has worked its way into part of our everyday life. We rely on our phones for communication and it paralyzes us when it is time to talk. These themes are no stranger to my graduate thesis, “Heritage” which continues to haunt me for the good, everyday of my life.

As emerging adults, we are left with choices and options that will guide us to become real adults. The moment of adulthood has no time stamp or expiration date, but I hope that I find myself being an adult sooner rather than later.
