A picture is worth a thousand words but this one probably includes a thousands things. Sitting in my room wondering, “Where the F did all this stuff come from?” The years (21 to be exact) of living in this room has amounted into a good amount of stuff. What kind of stuff? A LOT of it. Since my relocation back to the 96732, my room has been going through an identity crisis. Things are getting moved out, shifted around and thrown away (FOREVER). I’ve brought back my *newer* things from New York to live with my older things from my past. I’ve always shared this room with my sister, so I’m moving her things around too. The years I lived away (8 years) from home made this space a time capsule. A place to drop things in between visits with no urgency to deal with any of it. My style has evolved and this space shows it. We are in a transitional phase together and we got some work to do.

There is nothing like a visit to Hana to remind me of all that we have on Maui. The drive itself is an experience. The ocean is bluer than blue, the plants are every shade of green possible. You feel like you are alone and surrounded by all that you need at the same time. Time after time this place still leaves me speechless. I could describe it more to you but really it is a place that you have to see yourself to believe.
My friends and I are all in the same spot. We are entering our mid-to-late twenties and trying to make sense of everything we *think* we know about life. I’m learning that I don’t have to have everything planned out just yet. There’s some time and we are still pretty young (for now).
California was my first step away from home. In all my trips in and out of California, nothing has changed. California has always been the same, but I think I’ve changed. The things that caused me grief have turned into the things that make me feel good. I haven’t lived here in years but the comfort I feel in San Diego makes me feel right at home. Here I learned about myself and let people learn about me. I’ve left a lot of hearts here. Long distance friendships are never easy but when they are with the right people, they are definitely worth it. Thanks for staying the same California. You are quite the cure.
G-Flo spent her 89th birthday cruising around Honolulu in her red mustang of a wheelchair and this black stallion SUV. She enjoyed being surrounded by those tall buildings of the “big city” of Hawaii. We through down her old stomping grounds in Waikiki (Lewers Street) where she worked as the hostess with the mostess. We ate Japanese food everyday, sometimes for more than one meal a day and that was okay. She was wow’d by our room on the tippy top floor and even
She’ll never have her own Instagram (animals don’t have smart phones!) but she will always have a #hashtag.
Just at the beach with friends yo.
I never thought I was a cat person (blame that on Mom for not allowing pets), but then there’s this cat. She acts like a dog, she thinks she belongs here and she makes herself at home. She even walks into our home. Her real name is Vicky and she came from our neighbor. They didn’t neglect her, she just decided she liked our Grandma better.
Soon the sugar cane will disappear, so any photo op with them is going to be a photo op taken. These fields
Actually, not that sweet, at first. Just like going to Grandma’s, going to Uncle’s you never leave empty handed. “Go make lemonade,” he said, washing bunches of lemon and putting them in a plastic bag for us to take home. So I did.
Under the direction of my oldest boss, G-Flo, I made lemonade. Five lemons later, I had more than enough juice for a pitcher of lemonade. G-Flo commented, “I think that’s a lot of juice for that small pitcher. Needs plenty water you know.” Eye roll. She’s the boss for a reason and always thinks her way is the right way. The first taste was sour, like really sour. A spoonful of sugar later it was still sour. Another spoonful didn’t make much of a difference. “How does it taste? Still sour yeah?” She asked, and I lied. “It’s perfect!” The truth was, it probably needed more water but no way was I going to admit that to G-Flo. I just poured myself a glass, drinking my sour juice which was perfect for my slightly sour attitude.
