Just getting the daily dose of Vitamin D in a walk through Washington Square Park. Looks like spring with the blue skies, but NY is still fighting off that cold chill.

Three random, but somewhat planned things happened today. Started of going to the event, Photography Expanded at the Aperture Gallery in Chelsea, then left to take an unplanned but relaxing walk on the Highline with my people. Lastly, thought I missed the painting session we were having for our thesis show, but turns out I made it just on time for some touch ups and then clean ups. Everyone needs to do their share!

Finally a warm day in NY! Going to class with just a light jacket on never felt better. I also spent some time in evening with Charlie, the golden doodle on the UWS–nothing like a peppy pup to end the rough week.

One down.

Date : April 19, 2013

matsumoto thesisOne dinner down, many more to go. Today was the first night I held a dinner for my thesis with my close friend Marisa. We met on the first day of grad school, and since then have survived two hurricanes (one being a little more serious than the other), an earthquake, a trip back to her home in Boston, many fun times, and most importantly, MFADT. Marisa has become more than just a friend, but family. I was happy to share this Panera Bread meal with her, has a lot of meaning to us because it’s our go-to meal, and apparently the same for her family at home!

Taking a break from thesis–just to eat lunch. Eataly sandwiches and sharing Shake Shack ice cream made it a perfect afternoon lunch in the sun at Madison Square Park. Just when I thought I settled my sweet tooth for the day, an apple pie present from the Little Pie Company came my way. Looked too good to resist a small bite but saving the rest for tomorrow.

Movie trailers and trucks lined up and down my usual route to school.  Come to find out they were filming  “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” today at Union Square Park.  It’s amazing how a movie crew can turn spring time in the city back to a Christmas lights with some fancy lights and a big movie crew. Got to love NYC.

Bless Boston

A midday chai tea and chocolate doughnut pick me up date in the spring sun soon turned somber as we learned about the unfortunate bombings at the Boston Marathon. A quick check to all my Boston ties ended in a sigh of relief. No one I know was hurt, but all those there, and the city will continually be in my thoughts. A sad way to start the week, but tomorrow is a new day.

Present

Today was tough–mentally on the brain and physically on the body. Walking around the city searching for just the right thing for thesis and wondering why I can’t find it in the “big” city. This seems to always be the case for some reason and frustrating to focus on, so I’ve had to learned not to. Live in the present, go with what happens and something will fall into place. In this case, bloom into place as the flowers have finally arrived and acted as a pleasant present to the difficult day.

Today isn’t Monday, but this is what I did on Monday. Downtown NYC skyline, and ferry feet on the way to Redhook, Brooklyn to visit IKEA for thesis supples.

Spring is finally in the air today, or maybe we just skipped to summer: 79 degrees in the city.
